Ren Shigang is the chief engineer of refining technology in the second steelmaking area of Baowu Group Zhongnan Steel Plant. The power consumption of high-quality steel refining has been reduced by 12.8kWh/t, and the power consumption of refining has been reduced by more than 2 million yuan in June.

In the cost reduction and efficiency improvement project of the steel plant, reducing the power consumption of refining is one of the main projects. As the project leader of the second process of steelmaking, Ren Shigang went out to investigate the advanced practices of peers, seized the "gold nugget" buried in the soil of long refining time and high power consumption, solved the long-standing problem of the contradiction between the quality of high-quality steel and refining time, and achieved a new breakthrough.

Ren Shigang said: "Other people can reduce refining time and power consumption without affecting quality. If others can do it, we can do it too!" He led the research team to continuously conduct research on the matching of converter, refining and casting machine rhythms, summarize and improve measures, give full play to the role of the just-in-time production system, according to the system arrival time, refining time and other requirements, the time is accurate to the minute, on the other hand, take effective insulation measures, optimize the converter steel alloying process, improve the refining arrival conditions, reduce the alloy addition in the refining process, optimize the refining slag operation and rhythm control, etc. In the process of research, he took root in the site, worked overtime, solved the problems of on-site equipment, taught and guided the team on the key points of steel grade operation, organized the team to conduct theoretical knowledge training on refining, and comprehensively improved the refining operation level.

With a series of effective measures, the power consumption of the second steelmaking process has been continuously reduced, and finally reached the level of advanced peers, overcoming difficulties in one fell swoop. The refining time of high carbon steel has been shortened by more than 20 minutes, and the refining time of high alloy steel has been shortened by more than 50 minutes; the refining time of bearing steel has been shortened by 16.3 minutes, and the refining power consumption has been reduced by 8.46kwh/ton.

Process cost reduction, every penny counts

Ren Shigang is very familiar with refining equipment, is eager to learn and drill, and while excellently completing the refining production maintenance, equipment status monitoring, and assisting in daily equipment maintenance, with rich practical experience and hard work, he and the team have vigorously implemented technological innovation, overcome one after another production operation, equipment maintenance and technical problems, and made positive contributions to stable refining production, variety development, and reduced power consumption.

In the research on solving the problem of castability of cold heading steel by optimizing the refined slag system, he compared the differences in the cold heading steel smelting process through on-site follow-up, analyzed the reasons why cold heading steel could not be pulled out, and found that bottom blowing argon, the state of refined slag and the effect of soft blowing were the main factors affecting the failure of cold heading steel to be pulled out. By formulating improvement measures, adjusting process parameters and optimizing the refined slag system, there was no accident of stopping pouring due to the failure of cold heading steel to be pulled out, ensuring the large-scale production of cold heading steel.

RH vacuum is an important technical condition of RH. In daily production, the phenomenon of substandard vacuum often occurs. It is time-consuming and labor-intensive to find the leakage point of the vacuum system, which affects the continuity of production. For this reason, Ren Shigang summarized and compiled a set of RH leak detection procedures, listing the judgment methods and solutions for common leak points. Under his leadership, all RH personnel became experts in plugging leaks. RH did not have any accidents affecting production due to substandard vacuum, and successfully solved the difficult problem of ensuring vacuum after the RH top gun was put into use.

"Saving expenses means saving money" is a phrase that Ren Shigang often says. He internalized the cost reduction and efficiency improvement and performance excellence into his heart and put them into practice, truly implemented them in his job and reflected them in his actual actions, and contributed his utmost efforts to the cost reduction and efficiency improvement work of the steel mill.
